Membership

ABE Membership Levels


1. Affiliate Member

Affiliate membership is designed for those who are interested in business management issues and wish to benefit from the online information and resources offered by ABE. This is a non-professional level of membership, and joining is easy as there is no entry requirement. Click here for application form.

Students of the Association of Business Practitioners (ABP) wishing to apply for Affiliate membership should contact ABP directly.

2. Student Member

Student Membership for those who are studying for an ABE qualification.

3. Associate Member (AMABE)

Associate Membership is awarded to students who have completed their Higher Diploma (Level 5) or new students who have registered for the Level 6 Graduate Diploma / Level 7 Postgraduate Diploma.

Associate Membership is also available to non-ABE student members who may not wish to study an ABE qualification at this time but would like to use their current and previous work experience to show that they have the knowledge and expertise required to become an Associate Member. Associate Members can use the letters AMABE after their name to demonstrate their level of attainment.

4. Member (MABE)

The next level up is Member. Higher Diploma (Level 5) holders (or NQF Diploma holders) with four years' managerial experience, and Graduate Diploma / Graduate Integrated Diploma / Extended Diploma (Level 6) holders (or NQF Advanced Diploma holders) with two years' managerial experience, can apply for this upgrade. ABE also welcomes applications for this grade of membership from non-ABE student member who have at least 2 years’ experience of teaching ABE qualifications and have current or previous managerial work experience. Click here for application form

Members may use the letters MABE after their name as recognition of their position.

5. Fellow (FABE)

The highest level of membership is Fellow. To upgrade a Fellow, a further four years of management experience are required, plus a clear commitment to ABE. The minimum age for a Fellow is 30 and our Council considers each application. Fellows are allowed to use the letters FABE after their name to show their level of achievement.


All student members receive four issues per year of our Student Focus magazine. Student Focus is full of the latest ABE news, articles, study tips, success stories and guidance.

Associate Members and above receive four issues of our Business Executive magazine. Business Executive contains articles for the working manager, along with key ABE news and book reviews.

Code of Practice


The Association of Business Executives has produced a Code of Professional Practice to enable its Members to play an active part in promoting and maintaining honourable managerial practice, thereby developing the confidence of the communities in which they live.

Members of the Association shall, therefore, in their capacity as managers:

  • Comply with the law and professional standards of the country in which they work.
  • Maintain fully any requirements for confidentiality.
  • Behave at all times with integrity and without claiming knowledge and/or experience beyond their level of competence.
  • Ensure that, in giving advice, any relevant personal interest is disclosed.
  • Accept full responsibility for any work undertaken either personally or by delegation and ensure its completion.
  • Ensure that actions in the exercise of managerial functions are fully in accordance with the aims of the Association of Business Executives, namely the promotion and advancement of the study of management and administration in industry, commerce and the public service and the continued up-dating of professional knowledge of individual members of the Association in all aspects of managerial expertise.
  • In pursuance of the above, give wholehearted support to junior, trainee or potential managers in the development of their professional managerial status.

Student members should adhere to this Code within the limits of their expertise, knowledge and capabilities.
