Education Committee

The Education Committee acts as the policy making body of ABE. It comprises a number of distinguished professors and academics with many years' experience of UK and international education.

Dr John Hebden (Chair of Examiners)

Dr Hebden is a former Head of the Management School, University of Salford.

Professor Tom Baum (Programme Chief in Travel, Tourism and Hospitality Management)

Prof Baum is a Professor of International Tourism and Hospitality Management, and Director of Postgraduate Courses at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow.

Dr Peter Martin (Programme Chief for Marketing)

Dr Martin is former senior oil company executive. He is now a partner in a marketing and communications consultancy and a visiting lecturer in marketing at various academic institutions.

Dr Terry Butland

Dr Terry Butland is Deputy Vice-Chancellor, International and Marketing, of Middlesex University. He is a qualified physicist and, before moving to higher education, spent his career in research and management posts in the nuclear power industry. He joined the University in 1997 from a large science and engineering public company where he was Director of Operations and Human Resources. He has chaired several national and international technical committees in the nuclear power field and has served as an expert witness at a number of international inquiries. His main technical expertise is in safety and risk management, where he has worked on problems in a range of fields including the nuclear and oil industries.

Dr Penelope Hood

Doctor Hood is the Director of Studies at Anglia Ruskin University, visiting academic at the Postgraduate Institute of Management, Sri Jayewardenepura University (Sri Lanka) and a member of the Academy of Management Science, Sri Lanka.

Mr Robert Hurley

Mr Hurley is an Adviser Team Manager with UK Trade & Investment. He has sector responsibility for Education & Professional Training and is the lead adviser for the China, Korea and Africa markets.

He has held various board level and senior managerial positions with multinational companies, working in Europe and several African countries such as Benin, Ivory Coast, Senegal and Togo.

Lynette Borrow

Lynette is the Curriculum Manager at the International Business School at South Thames College. With an MBA in Education Management from Nottingham University, Lynette is a highly qualified and experienced further education management specialist.
